Mala Beads

$22.00

These beautiful Mala beads are handmade by artisans in Bouddha, also known as Boudhanath which is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Boudhanath has been an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan Buddhists & local Nepalis. It is located on what was a major trade route between Nepal and Tibet. Many travelling merchants used it as a resting place. It is also a popular tourist site. See the photo of us (Katrina & Joanne) at Bouddha in 2019!

Mala beads are used in spiritual and mindfulness practices and are a traditional tool in Buddhism and are especially common among Tibetan Buddhists.

The repetitive movement of your fingers across the beads helps ground you.

How to use them?

  1. Hold your mala with one hand.

  2. Let it drape across your fingers so you can move it easily.

  3. Complete the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum.”

  4. Move your fingers to the next bead, complete the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”.

  5. Finish at the guru bead to complete 108 mantras.

The Om Mani Padme Hum mantra is at the heart of many Buddhist traditions. It is because every one of the Buddha’s teachings is believed to reside within this one powerful mantra. It is repeated over and over again to invoke the loving and conditional qualities of compassion.

Whether it is repeated out loud or silently to oneself, this is one mantra you’ll want to practice to connect with your innately loving and compassionate nature.

Each Mala purchased comes with a traditional handmade purse called a ‘Thaili’ in Nepali, made from upcycled fabric by artisans at the Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu.
